USEFUL INFORMATION FOR PEOPLE VISITING NEW YORK

United States have an agreement with the main European countries to allow entering US citizens without needing a Visa. To enter without a visa you need to have an unexpired passport, plan to stay fewer than 90 days, and have a return ticket. If you lose your passport, call your consulate and notify the Police.

Remember to add the number 1 ( one ) at the beginning of your digits. The newyorkers take it for granted but it is not for the european people.

Non US tourist bring any amount of money of any currency into the US, but if you bring or take out more then 10.000$ you are required to file a report form with the United States Customs Service.

In lower Manhattan the street plan, which reflects the european historical development, is irregular, but the rest of the city is easy to go. Avenues run north and south and streets run east and west. Broadway is the only exception to this system because it's the oldest street of NY and crosses the city from northwest to southeast.

You can use the same metro ticket but if you have no tickets you can buy it with 8 coins of 25 cents each ( total of 2 USD ) because the bus driver can not take bills.

If you take the metro, remember that NY has 7 lines of metro with 700 miles of extension. Some of the oldest stations have express train track used only for certain stops and local trains stops that stops at every station. The metro runs also after midnight but it slows down.
